^ DEVON HOUSE BEFORE

This is Devon House. It is about 150 years old and is located on Exploits Island, NF, Canada. It was renovated during the spring and summer of 1995 from a private summer residence to a hospitality home managed by the family. This conversion was made both to preserve the building and encourage visitors to this historic area.

Exploits Island cir. 1960This (rather poorly scanned) picture of Exploits is from a color photo probably taken in the 1960's. Some of the buildings, most notably the church, are no longer standing. Devon House is featured in the center with all its original three stories. The top floor was removed in the late sixties due to poor condition and lack of use.

In the lower right corner you can barely make out the house my mother grew up in. It was built by my grandfather, Albert Wells, about 1935. We are in the process of repairing it.
